Year-Round E15 Re-Introduced in D.C.

Congress introduced legislation to expand nationwide, year-round access to E15 fuel. Ohio Representative Max Miller (R-7th District) co-sponsored the bill.

The Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association urges Ohio’s congressional delegation and senators to support and pass the resolution. This action will provide crucial support for our nation’s energy sector, relief at the gas pump for American families, and assistance for Ohio farmers and rural communities.

“The passage of nationwide, year-round E15 comes at no cost to American taxpayers,” said Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of Ohio Corn & Wheat. “It’s time for Congress to offer a commonsense solution to outdated regulations. We strongly urge Ohio’s representatives and two senators to do the right thing and make nationwide, year-round E15 a permanent reality.”

E15, commonly sold in Ohio as Unleaded 88, is an accessible option to alleviate financial strain for families across the nation while offering a reliable and established solution to the country’s fuel supply.

“There is no disagreement regarding the advantages of nationwide E15,” Nicholson stated. “A national fix is an issue that both Democrats and Republicans agree is necessary. It’s time to turn it into reality.”

The expanded availability of E15 would provide economic and environmental benefits to farmers and consumers in Ohio. Excess corn will be used to meet the new demand that E15 would create. Consumers would experience significant savings per gallon at the fuel pump. On average, E15 (Unleaded 88) costs $0.20 per gallon less than regular Unleaded 87 gas, which is a much-needed saving for families who have been hit hard by inflation. Additionally, E15 is better for the environment because it has been proven to be a cleaner-burning fuel that makes our air safer to breathe.

“Corn producers already have the supply on hand to meet this new demand for corn,” stated Tyler Drewes, President of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “We have remained dedicated to our efforts to secure E15 approval for permanent nationwide use. This common-sense solution to a long-standing issue will benefit consumers and growers nationwide.”

“E15 supports American jobs and strengthens Ohio farming communities,” stated Dennis Vennekotter, Chair of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association.

Ohio is home to seven ethanol plants that use 32% of the state’s corn crop. These plants support over 19,700 jobs and 21,000 Ohio farms. Ohio is the seventh largest state in corn and ethanol production.

“We know there is strong support in Ohio for a nationwide solution to E15,” said Nicholson. “We have collaborated with a strong coalition, including the petroleum industry and fuel retailers, to reach this point. We urge our state leadership, including Governor Mike Dewine, to be vocal in supporting and encouraging the immediate passage of this pending legislation.”

Ohio growers and citizens can also express their support for the passage of nationwide, year-round E15 by participating in Ohio Corn & Wheat’s Call to Action, which will directly connect their messages and concerns to their representatives in Washington, D.C.
