DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio Corn & Wheat President Eric Tipton issued the following statement about gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s proposed fuel tax holiday.
“Ohio farmers and Ohio families are hurting, and rising fuel prices are making a tough situation even worse. With diesel approaching $7 a gallon as farmers head into harvest, those added costs will hit already-thin margins hard.
Farmers work all year to raise a crop. We can’t get to harvest and watch whatever margin is left disappear just by putting diesel in the combine and hauling grain to market.
That’s why the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association and I support Vivek Ramaswamy’s proposed 90-day suspension of Ohio’s motor fuel tax. Taking nearly 50 cents a gallon off our fuel costs adds up and would make a real difference for farmers, families, and businesses across Ohio.
I appreciate Vivek, Speaker Matt Huffman, Senate President Rob McColley, and other leaders in the Ohio General Assembly for working together on a plan to lower fuel costs. Now I encourage lawmakers to move quickly and get it across the finish line. Congress should follow Ohio’s example and suspend the federal fuel tax to provide additional relief.”
