OCWGA Member Profile – Kevin Miller

There are a lot of people who help make the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association what it is today.

Farmers who are willing to get involved because they know the stronger our membership is, the stronger our voice becomes.

Kevin Miller is one Ohio farmer who has seen that value firsthand, and says that being involved with the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association has opened new doors and created opportunities that are making an impact on his farm.

“there’s value to having somebody in Washington, D.C., that’s speaking on our behalf. I mean, when you live on the farm, you’re out here kind of by yourself. But when there’s behind the scenes work to be done, that’s what the Ohio corn wheat is out doing.”

For Kevin Miller, farming is his life’s work. And getting the opportunity to carry on a family tradition while now working alongside his son makes that work even more rewarding.

“We are the third generation farm here now. My father in law. And then his father started the farm.”

Today, Kevin and his family are carrying that operation forward, raising corn and soybeans, caring for cattle and being intentional about taking care of the ground and water they depend on.

And he is determined to make sure the farm is just as strong for the next generation as it is today.

Kevin has been a member of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association for years. And the more involved he became, the more he saw just how much was being done on his behalf.

That work is taking on issues that directly affect farmers across Ohio:

  • Pushing back against high fertilizer costs.
  • Growing demand for corn by fighting to make nationwide, year-round E15 a reality.
  • Expanding markets and protecting important trade relationships like USMCA.
  • And making sure farmers have a voice when decisions are being made that affect their way of life and their bottom lines.

“I just see the benefits firsthand and, see the value of it on my operation and encourage others to do the same.”

And it is one reason he has become one of the association’s biggest advocates—and last year’s top membership recruiter.

“I think we can do more together.”

Getting involved has also introduced Kevin to farmers from across Ohio, expanded his network and given him a chance to learn from others.

It has also given him an opportunity to help bring the next generation into that conversation.

“Yeah. So Ohio Corn is also pushing to help the next generation. I see younger members becoming involved, and it is good. We’re a team of all ages, and I appreciate that.”

For Kevin, that brings everything back to where his story started.

Building a farm that can remain strong for the next generation takes more than the work happening in his own fields. It takes farmers willing to get involved, speak up and work together.

That is why Kevin continues to belong—and why he is encouraging other Ohio farmers to join him.

“I see the benefit for myself and my farm, and I would encourage anybody that, there is value there. And I’d encourage you to sign up.”
