Ohio Farmers Secure Key Win in MAHA Commission Report

DELAWARE, Ohio – Earlier this year, Ohio farmers voiced deep frustration with the fear-based findings of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission’s report, which questioned the safety of crop protection tools like Atrazine and Glyphosate, vital tools growers have relied on for decades.

Thanks to the grassroots advocacy of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) and agriculture organizations across the country, the voice of the farmers was heard. The MAHA Commission’s recommendation report, released on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, shifts away from targeting widely used crop protection tools and instead emphasizes innovation, stewardship, and regulatory transparency.

“This is a win for farmers across Ohio and the nation, demonstrating that when farmers speak up, Washington listens,” commented Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “The MAHA Commission took our concerns seriously, and the result is recommendations that will keep agriculture strong, sustainable, and competitive.”

Key agriculture-focused recommendations include:

  • Precision Technology Research: Expanding USDA and EPA programs to help growers adopt precision agriculture tools.
  • EPA Process Improvements: Reforming EPA’s approval process to ensure timely access to innovative solutions.
  • Soil Health & Stewardship: Incentivizing voluntary farming practices that protect soil and strengthen rural communities.

“Ohio growers have long led the way in promoting sustainable practices that protect the land and strengthen our communities,” said Tyler Drewes, President of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “It is encouraging to see that our voices were heard in these final recommendations.”

“This report is not the finish line,” offered Nicholson. “The OCWGA remains committed to making sure these recommendations are implemented in a way that empowers farmers to deliver safe, abundant crops to consumers.”
