DELAWARE, Ohio – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced on Monday, April 28, 2025, that it will issue waivers allowing the sale of E15 gasoline during the 2025 summer driving season, from June 1 to September 15. This move is intended to help maintain a stable and adequate fuel supply during the nation’s busiest travel months.
The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association applauds the decision announced by the EPA to continue the sale of higher-ethanol blend E15 gasoline. This move helps ensure that consumers have the ability to fuel their summer vacations and travel plans with the more affordable and cleaner-burning E15, commonly sold as Unleaded 88.
“Through the leadership of President Donald Trump, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, and USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, consumers in Ohio and nationwide will benefit from lower fuel costs,” stated Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “This decision is meaningful to consumers, the environment, and corn growers.”
Currently, most U.S. gasoline is blended with 10% ethanol. However, E15—which contains 15% ethanol—has been available in Ohio since 2021 and has proven to be a reliable, cleaner-burning, and more affordable alternative. Despite its benefits, outdated Clean Air Act language still requires the EPA to issue annual waivers for E15 summer sales. E15 offers higher octane levels, is approved for use in 96% of light-duty cars and trucks manufactured since 2001 and typically costs $0.20 to $0.30 less per gallon than standard fuel.
“The Trump administration did right by consumers and corn growers by making E15 available this summer,” said Tadd Nicholson. “Now it’s time for Congress to finish the job: fix the outdated rules and make year-round E15 sales a permanent reality for all Americans.”
