Bernie Moreno Joins the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association for Members-Only Meeting

DELAWARE, Ohio— The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) hosted an exclusive members-only meeting on Thursday, March 13, 2025, featuring U.S. Senator Bernie Moreno. This 30-minute discussion marked the first in a series of sessions planned for 2025, aimed at connecting OCWGA members with key national and local leaders.

Government Funding & Legislative Priorities

During the meeting, Senator Moreno addressed several pressing issues, including three key legislative priorities for himself and his Republican colleagues, emphasizing their alignment with President Trump’s agenda on government spending and tax policy.

“There are three critical bills to keep in mind,” Moreno explained. “The first is the continuing resolution. The second is budget reconciliation, which allows us to review spending and make necessary adjustments. As part of that process, we will apply something called current policy, ensuring that the 2017 tax reform remains in effect.”

Farm Bill: A Call for Action

Many in the agriculture industry remain concerned about the need for a new five-year farm bill. Moreno expressed frustration about how previous Congresses have handled this issue and agreed with growers in Ohio that there is no need to delay legislation that would help meet farmers’ current needs nationwide.

“There is no excuse for them not to have had a farm bill already. Typically, farm bills aren’t deeply controversial,” offered Moreno. “I understand how important the agriculture industry is for Ohio. It’s our number one industry. So, we need to get a farm bill across the finish line.”

Tariffs & Trade: A Positive Outlook

Tariffs remain a major concern for Ohio’s corn and wheat growers, and Moreno took time to clarify the administration’s strategy. He provided an optimistic outlook on trade negotiations, emphasizing a fairer system for American farmers.

“I think you are going to see, in a very short period of time, a lot more trade that is beneficial and fair to America,” Moreno assured attendees.

Strengthening Advocacy for Ohio Farmers

With nearly 2,000 members, OCWGA is a grower-led organization dedicated to advocating for, promoting, and enhancing opportunities for Ohio grain farmers. Events like this exclusive meeting with Senator Moreno highlight the value of membership and the organization’s commitment to keeping growers informed and engaged in policy discussions.

“I would like to thank Senator Moreno for taking the time to speak candidly with the members and sponsors of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association,” said Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association. “With so many critical issues unfolding in Washington, D.C., it was essential to have a leader like Senator Moreno share his insights on what’s happening and what the future holds for growers here in Ohio.”

As OCWGA keeps engaging policymakers, members can anticipate additional chances to connect with important decision-makers over the year.
