It’s impossible to ignore the strides Ohio Corn & Wheat made on behalf of corn and small grains producers in the year 2025.
Here are a few highlights we are keeping in mind as 2026 kicks off.
Secured Federal Vomitoxin Appropriation Funding
The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association advocated for and won federal appropriations for Vomitoxin research. This is a major win for corn producers on a national level, and wouldn’t have been possible without the advocacy of Ohio’s farmers. Vomitoxin has been a devastating crop disease over the last 10 years, and Ohio Corn & Wheat is dedicated to solving the issue.
Prevented New Taxes on Drainage Tile and Grain Bins
Through the state budget process advocates for Ohio grain agriculture stopped a legislative initiative that would have eliminated the sales tax exemption for necessary farm infrastructure. This success will save individual farms tens of thousands of dollars per year.
Proved Wheat’s Sustainability
The Ohio Wheat Checkoff supported a study that found wheat to be an incredible crop to promote environmental sustainability when used in conventional rotation. Wheat boasts a 33% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and a 60% reduction in soil erosionwhen included in cropping systems. This goes to show that wheat is a sustainable, profitable crop for Ohio farmers.
Stopped State Policy from Unintentionally Harming Crop Protection
Ohio’s agricultural advocates came together and stopped a piece of legislation in the Statehouse that would have prevented grain producers from applying their own crop protection tools. As written, the change would have prevented trained and supervised farm employees from assisting with the mixing, loading, or application of certain crop-protection products, creating unnecessary costs, delays, and logistical challenges for farmers during critical times of the growing season. Through advocacy and action from Ohio farmers, the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association was able to fix the problem swiftly.
Welcomed International Trade Delegations and Announced Trade Deals
Ohio Corn & Wheat hosted 5 different trade teams from around the globe in 2025. These international business leaders are the ones we focus on building relationships with to encourage trade, which means demand for your crops. Teams came in from Taiwan, Japan, South America, China, and Vietnam to see the quality and value of Ohio’s crops. And while they were here, trade agreements were announced by Taiwan and Vietnam, showing trust and appreciation to American grain production.
As the wins continue to stack up, Ohio Corn & Wheat will keep you informed. Stay tuned to updates at www.ohiocornandwheat.org/news and follow us on social media to never miss an update.
