Ohio Corn & Wheat Applauds Governor DeWine for Signing House Bill 10

Ohio Corn & Wheat thanks Governor Mike DeWine for signing House Bill 10, correcting an unintended change in state law that would have made it harder for farms to carry out everyday crop protection work.

Earlier this year, language included in the state budget unintentionally altered the definition of Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs) and who is legally permitted to handle them. As written, the change would have prevented trained and supervised farm employees from assisting with the mixing, loading, or application of certain crop-protection products, creating unnecessary costs, delays, and logistical challenges for farmers during critical times of the growing season.

Recognizing the potential impact on farm operations, Ohio Corn & Wheat worked with state leaders to ensure the issue was addressed and corrected. House Bill 10 restores consistency with federal standards.

“We appreciate Governor DeWine for taking the necessary corrective action and signing House Bill 10,” said Tadd Nicholson, executive director of Ohio Corn & Wheat. “This legislation restores clarity for farmers who rely on trained employees to handle crop protection work safely. We thank the Governor and General Assembly for recognizing the importance of fixing this issue and ensuring Ohio farmers can continue operating responsibly.”
