Today, President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit POET Bioprocessing-Menlo, where he is expected to announce that his administration will lift restrictions on the sale of Unleaded 88 fuel for the 2022 summer driving season. Unleaded 88 fuel contains 15% ethanol and is a point higher in octane over regular 87 (10% ethanol) fuel.
Ben Klick, president of the Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association (OCWGA) and Tadd Nicholson, OCWGA executive director released the following statements:
Ben Klick, OCWGA President: “For months now, Ohio’s corn growers have been pushing hard to demonstrate how higher blends of ethanol are a smart choice to lower costs at the pump. Consumers everywhere can take advantage of Unleaded 88, a fuel approved for any car, suv or light duty truck made since 2001. The President’s announcement today is a critical stop gap measure to make sure that – right now especially – consumers can use that cleaner burning, higher octane, lower cost fuel through the busiest driving season of the year.”
Tadd Nicholson, OCWGA Executive Director: “Our growers have proven time and time again that they can meet the domestic fuel demand with ethanol. At a time when so many are feeling squeezed by high prices, we’ve got an answer available today – one produced right here at home. The President’s announcement couldn’t have come at a better time as Americans get ready for the summer driving season.”
The Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers Association is a collective membership driven organization of nearly 2,000 Ohio farmers. The association’s primary goal is to advocate, promote and enhance opportunities for Ohio grain farmers.
