Ohio corn growers got the opportunity to show off American corn around the world this month! Every year the U.S. Grains Council hosts the Corn Quality Rollout, a series of presentations in countries that buy significant amounts of American corn. This year, Ohio was asked to send two representatives.
Patty Mann of Jackson Center, Ohio spoke to buyers from the Middle East, Africa, and Europe in Malta.
Scott Haerr of Springfield, Ohio went to Japan and Taiwan and spoke to buyers in those countries.
On Corn Quality Rollout missions, American growers are usually asked to speak about their home operations and families. This year, there was a special interest in sustainable practices. Both Patty and Scott use sustainable practices, and buyers overseas were happy to hear that.
Approximately 1/3 of Ohio’s corn is exported. Missions like this increase international demand for American corn and bolster the markets, leading to higher exports.
